I can’t believe I waited so long to buy this book. I highly recommend this book to any and all sports fans. Of course, Alabama and college football fans will embrace the contents of the book most tightly, but Warren St. John tries to capture all of fan-dom or anti-fan-dom, as it may be. He begins the book by asking “Why Do I Care”??? Why are fans the way they are? The book basically chronicles the 1999 Alabama Crimson Tide football season with some interesting philosophy and introspection thrown in. I found all of the chapters fascinating (yeah…I’m biased…Roll Tide!) and even shed a few tears as I relived the horrid home loss to LA Tech and the amazing, unexpected win over Florida in the Swamp. For any fan of any sport, this book is an interesting look at the fan psyche. I have no illusions that Alabama and SEC fans will like the book best, but everyone needs to give it a shot. It is well worth reading.

I loved the way the book was written, with chapters assigned back and forth between characters, and written in the style of that character. It really brings the book to life. There are better reviews than mine, just wanted to add another 5-star review. Highly recommended!

After seeing my students devour this book, I decided to give it a try and Wow!!! I came from Transylvania – the land of Dracula, and I am also teaching high school level, so this book hit home! Loved the style of writing more than anything. Sophisticated and well developed, the characters echoed their actions in my head for a long time after finishing the book. LOVED IT!!!!
