This is my first GPS sports watch and it’s freakin’ awesome! It does everything I thought it would do plus much, much more. This is a great toy/tool to use during your workouts and it’s a great way to analyze the quality of the workouts. Well worth the money at $150!!!

I had heard many good things about this novel with many recommendations that, as a Harry Potter fan, I would enjoy it. I’m happy to say that it lived up to all of the hype. This is yet another example of a fine writer producing children’s literature that’s not all that childish. Like a really well-done cartoon, there’s plenty in its pages to entertain and amuse children and many references that will go straight over their heads but that adults will enjoy.
The language Colfer uses is really wonderful. He doesn’t try to dumb it down and the vocabulary is colorful and would be a nice challenge for younger children and yet it’s not so academic that it becomes daunting. Colfer uses colorful language and does an excellent job of setting the scene and creating believable and fun dialogue.
The best thing about this book, though, is Colfer’s prodigious imagination. Artemis is a very fun and unexpected character and the Butlers were also a lot of fun, particularly Julia with her penchant for wrestling. Colfer’s twists on traditional folklore and fairytale creatures is very innovative and his take on how the “Mud People” stereotype fairies, elves, and dwarves was a riot. Colfer is very adept at using such satire to great effect and while kids will find it funny, adults will appreciate how Colfer pokes fun at our own world.
Overall, this book is a great deal of fun and I look very forward to reading the next installment.

When I found this little book,I thought it was a typical ‘Road Book’;but it wasn’t.The author is a small town newspaper columnist, and who is quite happy to live the simple small town life with a job he enjoys,a family he loves,a home he and his wife created out in the country;and that is about all he really yearns for—the simple life. The newspaper that employs him has had its ups and downs, and ownership changes as is so common these days;but through the years Johnson has survived it all;if sometimes only barely; but then that is all he really wants. He is basically a writer who writes a human interest column. He has come up with a novel method of searching out his subjects–he simply picks them at random from his telephone directly. What he finds is that he has an unlimited source of interesting people to write about and all within a short distance of his home.He shows that virtually everyone, and no matter how ordinary their lives seem to be,there is always something interesting about their life experience to write about.
That is about all there is to this book.Except for one thing.A few years ago a friend recommended that I read “The Stone Diaries’ by Carol Sheilds. It was a very similar book, written about ordinary people and their lives. The one big difference is that Sheilds won a Pulitzer Prize for her efforts.
I looked up her book and read the Customer Reviews and they are very mixed. Some think the book was wonderful and really deserved the prize, while others just couldn’t see where it was merited.
The two books are very similar and if you like Johnston’s you are sure to like Sheild’s.Likewise; if you find one rather mundane ;you’re likely to find the other the same.
Here is what Johnson has to say in a nutshell:
“Over the better part of two decades, these people have confirmed the notion that everyone is worthy of the front page. Moreover, they’ve shown me how to appreciate the simple things we already have within our grasp and the exhilaration that come

WOW I have read the first few pages and this guy isnt “conversating with God, hes talking to satan himself. Any one who tells you to rely on your feelings is the biggest deciever ever!! Our feelings are fleeting up and down. Jesus Christ is the Rock that never changes. Thank goodness He didnt go by His feelings when he was dying on the cross for our sins. This book is a big fat LIE!

After several days use and about 200 photos, the card malfunctioned. It froze while I was reviewing some photos I’d taken. I took the card out and reinstalled it, and it started working again, but now when I try to upload photos to my computer I can’t. I get the following error message: “The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.” The problem has to be with this card, because all other SD cards are working fine with my camera. I’ve had good prior luck with Transcend SD cards, but I’m reluctant now to purchase another.
A Record of Interments
I thought this book was wonderful! I loved the way the author juxtaposes the young Jacob with the older Jacob; such a method has the potential to be jerky or awkward, but the transitions are smooth and the reader can easily manage to keep up with both storylines.
Gruen is a skilled storyteller, I was caught from the first page and couldn’t put the book down. I love when a book does that, and makes me both happy and sad, and this book does both of these things at various points. The most emotional aspect of the book for me was how Jacob felt about being in a nursing home, his frustration at having a “young” mind in an older body, and being treated as though he’s senile by the nursing home staff as well as his own family. This happens a lot in our culture, we tend to pack away the old because we don’t want to be reminded of what we will be one day. Wonderful, wonderful. 5 stars.

I enjoyed this book however it does not rate, at least from me, the title of Masterpiece or Classic. This said, I recommend that you read it and judge for yourself. It is not wasted time. I lived through the 60’s and my family’s unrecognized racism and related to several items in this book. However, the characters are somewhat one-dimensional which does not negate the story line or entertainment value of the novel as a whole. The Help is a solid first novel and I expect this author to improve as she continues to publish.
