As I was reading this book I was thinking “Holden Caulfield is such a jerk! He’s disrespectful to elders, he’s blasphemous, he can’t see past the end of his nose, and he’s an aimless kid who’s heading nowhere fast.”
But guess what? That describes me when I was a kid! In fact, it describes a huge percentage of America! And it also describes a big percentage of American youth. J.D Salinger caught lightening in a bottle with this timeless, classic look at American teen angst. Based on the way the story is told, it could have been written at any time during the 20th century, and it still speaks to us today. Because of all the swearing and the potty mouth thinking of the book’s central figure, I’, not sure I would recommend this for a high school class, but it would make for a good book for a college class and something that every one who cares about timeless lit should read.
I should also say that as frustrating as it is to get inside the mind of Holden Caulfield, I came away from the book with a sense of hope, that maybe the kid won’t be a schmuck for the rest of his life after all. In that sense, when I see Holden Caulfield, I see myself.

I got this HDMI cable for $.01 and it works just fine. I was thinking that this might be some kind of hoax, because it was so cheap, but I use it for my Blu-Ray player and it looks awesome.

I bought this machine before the birth of my first son 3 years ago. I used to lay in his room before he was born and relax listening to the different sounds. We started using the ocean mode when we brought him home from the hospital. We still use it every night and take it with us whenever we spend the night away from home. At three years old, he now makes sure that he turns it on before going to bed. We are expecting our second son in a few months and will purchase a new one just for him.
I have looked at other machines, but like the fact that this one can be used with an AC adaptor. We let it run all night long and the others just eat up batteries for the same initial price. I also like the fact that the sound comes through on our monitor. It not only helps me sleep at night but I trust in knowing that my monitor is working as well.
One downfall, I wish the volume was a little bit louder. All in all, a great product!!!
Updated: Sep 10, 2005 – Great Customer Service Too!
We did purchase a second unit for our newborn son. The packaging has changed and now allows for a store demo mode. The new unit was stuck in DEMO MODE and did not work properly. I contacted DEX Products and a new one was sent to us immediately at no extra charge. I have changed my review from 4 stars to 5 stars due to the great customer support (and the volume seems to be louder on the new unit too).

I like the vacuum. It is light enough and yet it is powerful enough. The only problem is the belt broke after just 1 month of use. I hope this doesn’t continue.

In reading many reviews, one issue I did not find resolve to until I figured it out was that you can change the size of the Heart Rate Display and make it one of the main Data Fields. Considering that one of the main functions of the Garmin Forerunner 305 is the heart rate monitor, I think Garmin should have made the default value for one of the larger displays the Heart Rate information. (By default, the heart rate is this tiny text up in the right hand corner of the display that many complain they can’t read because it’s too small) OR – Garmin should at least have a video to show how this can be changed. Don’t worry – after learning how to and digging into the instructions and playing with the settings – you can make the heart rate information display in the main large display.
This does everything I want it to do and much more – User Profiles – map your route – take you back to a saved location taking the same path – heart rate – distance – time – calories – pace – custom alerts for heart rate min. / max., distance, time, – routes, and many more functions I do not use.
One important thing to note is that after you figure this thing out (if you do – as some won’t) and once you have it set up and customized to your liking; it is easy to use and works very well. I figured it out the second time I went through the manual and played with it a few times. I have used POLAR and have read hundreds of reviews before deciding on this product. This does so much more for your money than any competing product and does it better.

I’ve always enjoyed a product when it simply works, and this one does. Unlike powerstrips these cause less clutter by staying close to the outlet and not adding another wire to the mix. The indicator lights can tell you if the grounding in the wall outlet is working or not which is a nice feature. Being able to swivel the outlets is a great idea and was very useful behind a cabinet where there was not enough room for plugs. I bought two of these for my living room and would definitely buy more in the future if needed.

I have had this 2-slice toaster for about 4 months and stopped using it last week after I bought a $29 Oster as a replacement. Toasting bread with this Kitchen Aid takes about three times as long as a regular toaster. The highest setting (9) takes about 4 minutes to complete, yet toasts come out a little brown but still too soft for my taste (and I like them to be soft inside, not like biscotti!) For the second cycle, though, I have to readjust the setting to about 3-4, then pull down the lever, and finally turn the On/Off knob to turn the toaster on. Too many steps for one slice of bread. All in all, each slice takes about 6-7 minutes to toast.
The toaster does look nice and is heavy, which I liked at first when I received it 4 months ago, and the signal it gives when the toasting cycle is complete is nice. But, in the end, who cares about that?? I prefer a toaster that fulfills its main function properly.
