Lu has been using this site with her class and having all the students post their papers and other writings here. They also are using the wiki — something I highly encourage for all you teachers out there! I think this is great!
I want to point out though to all bloggers that blogging is not enough, and it doesn’t help you!
There are two concepts which are super important in blogging. The first is linking. You should link to both other people’s posts like this one in order to increase discovery of content on this site.
The second concept is to link to your own blogs whenever possible! This is locked into the concept of SEO, or Search Engine Optimization (note English Wikipedia is accessible throug the Chinese Firewall right now!). Basically, search engines such as google determine the importance and relevance of your site by the number of links you make to other sites, the number of links other people have to your page, and then some other special magic. Thus, you should link to your own blog post when possible and spread the SEO!
Of course, none of this matters if you want to be the solo sad lonely artist in a room locked away from the world! But, if thats the case, then why blog at all? Also, if you have ads on your site, if there is no traffic, then what is the point! No clicks on the ads = NO MONEY!
